Carbon Direct and C2X Collaborate on Louisiana Biofuels Project for Carbon Removal and Biofuel Production
Carbon Direct and C2X have partnered on the Beaver Lake Biofuels project in Louisiana, aimed at converting forestry residues into biomethanol and carbon dioxide removal credits. The project plans to produce 550,000 tonnes of bio-methanol and store 1 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, with a final investment decision expected in 2026. It will create approximately 660 jobs and utilizes existing industrial infrastructure.

Carbon Direct and C2X are collaborating on the Beaver Lake Biofuels project in Louisiana, focusing on biomass carbon removal and storage. The project will convert forestry residues into 550,000 tonnes of bio-methanol annually and store 1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year.
It has secured a CDR offtake agreement with Microsoft for 3.6 million metric tonnes over 12 years. The project is expected to finalize its investment decision in 2026 and start operations in 2029, creating 660 jobs. Biomethanol production serves as a decarbonization solution for hard-to-abate sectors like shipping and aviation.
