Cargill Launches Maiden Voyage of First Green Methanol Dual-Fuel Bulk Carrier, Brave Pioneer
Cargill has announced the maiden voyage of Brave Pioneer, the first of five green methanol dual-fuel dry bulk vessels. Built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and owned by Mitsui & Co. Ltd., the vessel is designed to operate with both conventional marine fuels and green methanol, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by up to 70%.
The ship departs from the Philippines, will refuel in Singapore, and then head to Western Australia before continuing to Europe. During this voyage, Cargill will conduct operational tests to assess readiness for methanol refueling and the tracking of environmental attributes via carbon accounting systems. The launch of Brave Pioneer supports Cargill's broader decarbonization efforts, which include the introduction of additional vessels, wind-assisted propulsion, and exploration of alternative fuels.
