Ceres City Council Approves $4.9M Solar Project for Wastewater Treatment Expansion
The Ceres City Council has authorized a $4.9 million solar photovoltaic system to enhance the Wastewater Treatment Plant, expected to offset 50% of energy usage over 25 years. This initiative aims to improve operational efficiency and long-term cost savings while enabling eligibility for a federal tax credit.

The Ceres City Council approved a $4.9 million contract with Schneider Electric to install a 995-kilowatt solar system at the wastewater treatment facility. Construction is scheduled to commence in June and conclude in November, with full operational capacity anticipated by Q1 2025.
The project is projected to save approximately $8.6 million in energy costs over its lifespan, funded by sewer enterprise account resources. The system aims to meet increasing demands for capacity and regulatory compliance while contributing to financial sustainability. Currently, the plant processes around 2.5 million gallons of wastewater daily, with plans for additional pond space to enhance treated water percolation into the groundwater.
