Cherokee Wastewater Treatment Plant Relocation Delayed Due to FEMA Criteria
The relocation of Cherokee's wastewater treatment plant has been delayed by at least a year after failing to meet FEMA's relocation criteria. The project must now be revised to restore the plant's pre-flood condition, with a new timeline of three to five years for potential relocation or repair.

Cherokee's wastewater treatment plant relocation has been postponed by at least one year due to non-compliance with FEMA's relocation requirements. City officials learned that the project does not qualify under the repetitive damage criterion as the recent flood was the plant's first damage incident.
Consequently, the city is reassessing its plans to restore the plant to its pre-flood condition, with a revised timeline indicating three to five years for either relocation or repairs. In parallel, discussions are ongoing regarding the potential relocation of the Yacht Club, damaged in the flood, as the city seeks to utilize FEMA funds for this project.
Additionally, the council has selected ISG Engineering to repair the lower campground, with construction expected to begin as early as September. Funding for the Beech Street lift station has also been secured from FEMA, with projects anticipated to commence this fall.
