Chichester District Council will begin a food waste collection service in Spring 2026, starting with communications to households in February. Residents will receive a kitchen caddy and an outdoor food waste recycling bin with usage instructions, with distribution set to begin in March.
The rollout will occur in stages across the district, covering over 300 square miles. New food waste recycling vehicles have arrived, and specialized routes have been designed for efficient collection.
All councils in England must implement a food waste collection service by March 2026. Once operational, residents can dispose of food waste into the kitchen caddy and transfer it to the outdoor bin for weekly collection. Collected food waste will be processed at an anaerobic digestion facility in Horsham to generate biogas and biofertilizers.
