Continental Eliminates Coal and Heavy Fuel Oil at All Global Tyre Plants by January 2026

BIOFUELSNATURAL GAS

As of January 2026, Continental has phased out coal and heavy fuel oil at all 19 of its tyre production facilities. The plants now operate on alternative energy sources such as biomass, biogas, renewable electricity, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and natural gas.

Previously, seven facilities relied on coal and heavy fuel oil due to regional energy constraints. This transition has led to a reduction of around 180,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions over four years, with greenhouse gas intensity decreasing by more than 10% in 2025 compared to 2024, and by about 70% since 2019.

The energy mix varies by location, influenced by local resources and infrastructure. Continental has been recognized with an A- rating by CDP for its climate efforts.
