Corteva Inc. and bp have established a 50:50 joint venture named Etlas, aimed at producing oil from crops such as canola, mustard, and sunflower for biofuels including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (RD). The venture plans to produce one million metric tonnes of feedstock annually by the mid-2030s, generating over 800 thousand tonnes of biofuel.
Production is expected to commence in 2027. Industry forecasts predict global SAF demand will rise to 10 million tonnes by 2030, and RD demand could reach 35 million tonnes in the same period. Etlas will utilize crops grown on existing cropland, enhancing soil health and providing additional income for farmers without increasing land use. Ignacio Conti will serve as CEO of Etlas, with Gaurav Sonar as Chair of the Board.
