Deschutes County Appoints Jeff Merwin as New Solid Waste Director
Deschutes County has appointed Jeff Merwin as the new Solid Waste Director, replacing Tim Brownell, who retires on March 21. Merwin brings over 30 years of solid waste experience, previously serving as compliance and infrastructure manager at Deschutes County Solid Waste. His responsibilities will include overseeing waste disposal and recycling operations at multiple transfer stations across the county, amidst ongoing efforts to site a new landfill and comply with Oregon's Recycling Modernization Act.
Deschutes County has appointed Jeff Merwin as Solid Waste Director, effective following the retirement of Tim Brownell on March 21. Merwin has over 30 years of experience in the solid waste sector, including his recent role as compliance and infrastructure manager at Deschutes County Solid Waste since April 2023.
He contributed to the construction of the Negus Transfer Station in Redmond and the Knott Landfill renewable natural gas project. Merwin will oversee waste disposal and recycling operations at Knott Landfill and several rural transfer stations in the county. He holds a bachelor's degree in public health from Oregon State University.
