DS NORDEN and MASH Makes Complete Biofuel Trial on Vessel from Singapore to Brazil
DS NORDEN and MASH Makes have completed a commercial vessel trial using biofuel from a carbon-negative process. The vessel undertook a roundtrip from Singapore to Brazil, utilizing 65 tonnes of a fuel blend containing 20% MASH Makes biofuel in its auxiliary engine.
This trial confirmed the biofuel's compatibility with existing marine systems, providing a practical method for shipowners to reduce emissions ahead of the International Maritime Organization's 2025 global emissions cap ratification. MASH Makes biofuel, produced through pyrolysis of agricultural residues, is comparable to ISO8217 standard fossil fuels and can be used in unmodified engines. MASH Makes' facility in Karnataka, India processes 23,700 tonnes of agricultural waste annually, producing 3,400 tonnes of bio-oil and biochar, with a second plant under construction to increase capacity.
