The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) is organizing a two-day event centered on the region's role in generating homegrown energy and its future energy strategies, including hydrogen production and carbon capture at the Bacton Energy Hub. Approximately 1,500 delegates and 70 exhibitors are anticipated, marking EEEGR's 25th anniversary in supporting the Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex energy sectors since 2001.
Key discussions will focus on the pathway to achieving UK energy self-sufficiency by 2050 and the associated workforce requirements. The event comes amid rising oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, underscoring the urgency for domestic energy solutions.
EEEGR highlights the significance of integrating fossil fuels with renewable energy to foster resilience and infrastructure. A skills challenge involving local students will also be part of the event, aiming to attract and train talent for the energy industry.
