EBB Proposes Policy Changes to Enhance EU SAF Investment
The European Biodiesel Board (EBB) has outlined key policy priorities to bolster investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the EU. These recommendations aim to ensure long-term emissions reductions and enhance the competitiveness of bioSAF production.

The EBB has proposed the establishment of a predictable annual SAF mandate trajectory to enhance investment in sustainable aviation fuel across the EU. Current regulations, which include significant increases from 6% in 2030-2034 to 20% in 2035, are deemed inadequate, leading to potential mismatches between production and demand.
To address this, the EBB suggests a smoother trajectory for year-on-year mandates. Additionally, the organization recommends introducing a 'SAF surplus and pre-fulfilment' mechanism for greater flexibility in production and sales. The EBB also emphasizes the need for streamlined eligibility rules under the Renewable Energy Directive to resolve the ongoing feedstock paradox faced by biofuel producers.
