Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn First in NYC to Heat Campus with Vegetable Oil Biofuel
Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn has become the first public high school in New York City to heat its campus entirely with vegetable oil biofuel. The system, which uses repurposed vegetable oil, is designed to be a low-emission alternative to traditional fossil fuels and could be scaled to other city buildings. The school is currently testing the system during winter months, reporting no issues with heating. This initiative also includes educational components on sustainability within the school's environmental lab.

Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn is the first public high school in New York City to heat its entire campus with vegetable oil biofuel. The facility utilizes four boilers to run on this low-emission alternative, which school officials believe could be expanded to other buildings in the city.
The biofuel is made from repurposed vegetable oil and processed into diesel fuel. This winter marks the first cold-weather test of the system, and reports indicate no loss of heating efficiency. The initiative also includes educational efforts, with students engaging in sustainability practices in the environmental lab.
