EFSA to Reassess Bovaer Use Amid Concerns from Danish Dairy Farmers
Jesper Arnth, kvægformand in L&F, highlights concerns from Danish dairy farmers regarding the use of bovaer, prompting EFSA to re-evaluate its approval. Despite some positive experiences, many producers report issues with feed intake and health problems in cattle. Data suggests a potential link between bovaer and increased metabolic disorders when combined with high sulfur content in feed. The focus is on ensuring animal welfare and developing a range of climate measures, as well as the importance of close collaboration between farmers and biogas plants.

Amid reports of negative experiences with bovaer from Danish dairy farmers, Jesper Arnth, kvægformand in L&F, stated that EFSA will reassess the product's approval. While some have had no issues, many producers experienced reduced feed intake and increased health problems in cattle since its rollout in October.
Data indicates that bovaer may exacerbate metabolic disorders when combined with high sulfur levels in feed. A detailed investigation is underway. Arnth emphasized the need for farmers to trust the approved tools and highlighted the importance of welfare and climate measures, including collaboration with biogas facilities.
