Egypt's $873M Green Ammonia Project Advances to FEED Phase
Egypt's green ammonia project in New Damietta has entered the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, with a total investment of $873 million. The project aims to produce 150,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia, utilizing renewable energy sources for sustainable operations.

The green ammonia project in New Damietta, Egypt, has commenced its FEED phase, focusing on ammonia export facilities. Developed by Damietta Green Ammonia SAE, a joint venture of Scatec, ECHEM, and MOPCO, the facility is expected to begin operations in Q3 2028, aiming for an output of 150,000 tonnes per annum.
Financing discussions are ongoing, with major permits being secured. The project will integrate existing ammonia infrastructure and utilize 480 MW of renewable energy sources. In July 2024, a Heads of Terms for offtake with Yara Clean Ammonia was signed, alongside a letter of intent with the European Investment Bank for financing. The decarbonization of MOPCO's facilities is also underway, which includes carbon capture and additional green hydrogen production.
