The European Commission has initiated the offtaker phase of its Hydrogen Mechanism after receiving supply offers from over 260 projects. This phase invites domestic and international companies to express interest in purchasing green hydrogen and will remain open until 20 March 2026.
The Hydrogen Mechanism, part of the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform, aims to align supply and demand for raw materials, including natural gas and biomethane. Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen noted the initiative's promising start, emphasizing its role in enhancing the energy system's cleanliness, security, and affordability. Although demand for green hydrogen remains limited due to high production costs compared to fossil fuels, the mechanism aims to provide demand signals to aid planning and investment decisions.
