FortisBC Advances Biogas Facility Construction at Foothills Regional Landfill with Regional Support
FortisBC is advancing the construction of a biogas harvesting facility at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill, in partnership with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort. The facility will collect and purify gas emissions for resale, with construction slated to begin in fall 2026. The regional district board has unanimously supported FortisBC's application to use Crown land for the project, which includes relocating equipment and adjusting the gas pipeline layout due to a planned landfill expansion.

FortisBC, in collaboration with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort, is progressing on a biogas harvesting facility at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill. The facility aims to collect and purify gas emissions for resale instead of burning them off.
Recent findings at a regional district board meeting indicated a way to extend the life of the current landfill cell through lateral expansion, which necessitates relocating some of FortisBC's equipment and adjusting the gas pipeline layout. The construction of the renewable natural gas facility is scheduled to begin in fall 2026.
FortisBC's senior project manager, Scott Krenz, sought regional support for an application to use Crown land for the pipeline construction, which adheres to local municipal standards. The regional district board unanimously supported FortisBC's application to the BC Energy Regulator for the use of Crown lands and the establishment of a right-of-way.
