Gas Networks Ireland's €3 Billion Investment in Gas Infrastructure Enhances Renewable Capacity
Gas Networks Ireland oversees a €3 billion investment in Ireland's gas infrastructure, critical for energy stability and transition to renewables. The capital expenditure will rise from €200 million in 2025 to €237 million in 2026, focusing on upgrading the 14,758km gas network. The Mitchelstown CGI facility will inject up to 700GWh of renewable biomethane annually, meeting 12% of the 2030 target. Gas connections for two gigawatts of peaker power generation are set by 2030, with eight out of 13 plants already constructed.

Gas Networks Ireland is executing a €3 billion investment program to enhance its 14,758km gas infrastructure, essential for meeting Ireland's energy demands. Capital expenditure is projected to increase from €200 million in 2025 to €237 million in 2026, focusing on maintaining and expanding the gas network.
The new Central Grid Injection facility in Mitchelstown will inject 700GWh of renewable biomethane annually, contributing to a 12% share of Ireland's 2030 biomethane target. Additionally, eight out of 13 planned peaker power stations have been constructed to support high demand, with a goal of providing two gigawatts of gas connections by 2030.
