Germany Records 70.1 TWh Solar Generation in 2025 Amid Overall Electricity Increase
In 2025, Germany's electricity generation reached 438.2 TWh, a 1.4% increase from 2024, with renewables contributing 256.9 TWh. Solar generation hit a record 70.1 TWh, up 17.4%. Fossil fuel output rose to 181.3 TWh, increasing its share of generation. Wind power declined to 131.3 TWh, while hydropower saw a sharp reduction. Imports fell to 79.6 TWh, and exports increased to 60.2 TWh, resulting in a decreased import surplus.

Germany's total electricity generation for 2025 was reported at 438.2 TWh, up 1.4% from 2024. Renewable sources provided 256.9 TWh, slightly down from the previous year, decreasing their share of total generation to 58.6%.
Solar generation reached a record 70.1 TWh, marking a 17.4% increase. Fossil fuel generation increased to 181.3 TWh, raising its share to 41.4%. Wind power output fell to 131.3 TWh, while hydropower and biogas also saw declines. Electricity imports decreased to 79.6 TWh but exports rose to 60.2 TWh, leading to a reduction in the import surplus.
