Goa Waste Management Corporation to Build 25 TPD Biogas Plant in Mormugao with Rs 8 Crore Investment
The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has approved the construction of a 25 tonnes per day (TPD) compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Headland-Sada, to be established by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) with an investment exceeding Rs 8 crore. The council has allocated approximately 3,000 square metres for the project and will provide essential infrastructure support, including an electric transformer and water connection.
The CBG facility aims to convert organic waste into clean fuel, enhancing sustainable waste management in the region. Additionally, the Goa government supports biogas initiatives through subsidies and promotes biogas plants via the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA). Furthermore, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently initiated a 300 KLPD ethanol plant development by Centreal Biofuels Limited, following a drafted biofuels policy in August 2025.
