Haryana's Karnal Sugar Mill to Establish Compressed Biogas Plant through Public-Private Partnership
The Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited plans to launch compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state, with a flagship project at the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill. This facility will utilize press mud from the mill to produce renewable energy, promoting sustainable resource use.
The tender process is currently ongoing, with hopes for the Karnal mill's selection. For the 2025-26 crushing season, the mill produced 1.60 lakh quintals of sugar from 18.29 lakh quintals of sugarcane and generated 2.185 crore units of electricity, supplying 1.41 crore units to Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, resulting in a net income of Rs 8.97 crore. The mill has paid Rs 63 crore for sugarcane, covering 83.40% of dues, the highest in Haryana, and offers subsidized meals and modern facilities for farmers.
