Highland Pellets Proposes Biomass Plant and Carbon Capture Project in Arkansas
Highland Pellets LLC seeks to build a biomass power plant and implement carbon capture technology at its Pine Bluff site. This initiative aims to enhance renewable energy production and reduce carbon emissions, aligning with federal support for carbon capture advancements.

Highland Pellets LLC has submitted a permit application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to establish a biomass power plant and carbon capture technology at its existing facility in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
This project, referred to as 'Project Oscar,' will be situated on a 38-acre site and aims to supply energy primarily for the pellet plant and nearby industries. The proposed plant will generate sufficient electricity to power most of the pellet facility and will include a biomass boiler and steam turbine generator.
The project also plans to capture and store carbon dioxide emissions in a Class VI well. Highland Pellets, established in 2016, produces approximately 744,000 tons of wood pellets annually and employs around 125 workers. The company's carbon capture initiative is part of a broader trend, with 45 facilities currently operating and 150 more planned, amid federal support for such technologies.
