ICAR and Reliance Launch Centre of Excellence for Bioenergy Grasses in India
ICAR and Reliance Industries Ltd. have inaugurated the 'Centre of Excellence for Research on Bioenergy Grasses' to bolster India's green energy efforts and support farmers. This initiative, part of a project focused on utilizing perennial grasses for sustainable bioenergy, includes a Rs 100 crore investment from Reliance to develop 11 grass species for compressed biogas production. The collaboration aims to enhance forage research and improve fodder security, benefiting the livestock sector and agricultural productivity.

ICAR and Reliance Industries Ltd. have launched the 'Centre of Excellence for Research on Bioenergy Grasses' to enhance India's green energy initiatives and support farmers. This initiative is part of a collaborative project titled 'Utilizing Perennial Grasses for Revolutionizing Sustainable Bioenergy under Challenging Environments.'
The project was inaugurated by Dr. ML Jat and Dr. DK Yadava, who also laid the foundation for the 'Advanced Plant Phenomics Facility.'
Reliance has committed Rs 100 crore to develop 11 grass species as feedstock for compressed biogas production in India. The partnership aims to advance forage research and improve fodder security, contributing to the livestock sector and agricultural productivity.
