IIAMA Study Highlights Role of Artificial Wetlands in Water Quality Improvement
The Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (IIAMA) at Universitat Politècnica de València highlighted that artificial wetlands are essential for improving water quality and mitigating pollution. A recent study analyzed the 'Tancat de la Pipa' wetland's performance in the Albufera de València Natural Park, confirming its ability to act as a buffer system, achieving nearly 80% retention of suspended solids and reducing ammoniacal nitrogen.
The research indicates that hydraulic design enhances treatment efficiency. These insights are being applied in the VALPURIN project, which aims to reduce agricultural waste impact through innovative treatment processes utilizing artificial wetlands.
