India Approves 37 Biogas Projects with Rs 248 Crores Funding for Rural Waste Conversion
The Indian government has approved 37 proposals under the GOBARdhan initiative, allocating Rs 248 crores for converting rural bio-waste into biogas. Minister V. Somanna stated that these projects, supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, aim to enhance the rural economy and create employment. Additional schemes with a total outlay of Rs 1,559.25 crores are also being implemented to support CBG producers and develop pipeline infrastructure.

The Indian government has approved 37 proposals with financial support of Rs 248 crores for converting rural bio-waste into biogas as part of the GOBARdhan initiative. Minister V. Somanna indicated that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) is the nodal authority, overseeing support for CBG producers and the development of Biomass Aggregation Machinery.
The MoPNG is implementing a scheme with a total outlay of Rs 564.75 crore for this purpose and an additional Rs 994.5 crore for pipeline infrastructure from FY 2024-25 to 2028-29. These initiatives contribute to rural employment and infrastructure development while promoting a circular economy.
