Indonesia Establishes National Energy Council to Enhance Energy Self-Sufficiency

BIOFUELS

Indonesia has established the Dewan Energi Nasional (DEN) for the 2026-2029 term to enhance energy self-sufficiency and support its energy transition agenda. The council will coordinate efforts among various ministries to boost domestic energy production, expand renewable energy use, and promote alternatives like biofuel.

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the need to cut fossil fuel imports and achieve energy independence. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia highlighted four key focuses: energy sovereignty, energy security, reducing fuel imports, and achieving self-sufficiency.

Currently, Indonesia imports approximately 30 million kiloliters of fuel and aims to extend its energy reserves from 21 days to three months. This initiative is part of Indonesia's broader strategy to enhance national resilience and sustainability.
