Indonesia Government Offers 118 New Oil and Gas Blocks for Exploration
The Indonesian government is set to auction 118 oil and gas working areas over the next few years, promoting exploration and investment in the sector. This initiative, announced at the IPA Convention and Exhibition 2026, includes 25 areas already contracted, 43 in joint study phases, and 50 available for data acquisition.

The Indonesian government plans to introduce 118 new oil and gas blocks for exploration, with the announcement made by Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, during the IPA Convention and Exhibition 2026. Of these, 25 blocks are confirmed as working areas with signed contracts, 43 are under joint study processes, and 50 are potential areas for study or data acquisition.
The government encourages companies with technology and financial resources to participate openly in joint studies. Additionally, eight contracts, including agreements on LNG projects and carbon capture storage (CCS) development, were signed during the event, indicating a strategic push for energy sector collaboration.
