Inpasa Expands Ethanol Production Focus to Brazil's North and Northeast Regions

BIOFUELS

In an ambitious move to diversify Brazil's ethanol supply, Inpasa is setting its sights on the northern and northeastern regions of the country. According to Gustavo Mariano Oliveira, the company's vice president of trading, the initiative aims to decentralize biofuel production and enhance the consumption cycle for light engines.

Traditionally dominated by sugarcane, Brazil's biofuel landscape is shifting, with corn emerging as a significant player. Government projections indicate a surge in corn-based ethanol production, expected to increase by over 60% between 2025 and 2035, reaching 16.3 billion liters.

In a strategic partnership with Amaggi, a major Brazilian agricultural group, Inpasa plans to construct at least three corn ethanol plants in Mato Grosso. This collaboration highlights a commitment to bolstering production capabilities amidst a stagnating sugarcane sector.

However, the company is not solely dependent on corn; it has also begun incorporating sorghum into its ethanol production. Given sorghum’s resilience against climate variability, it presents a promising alternative for regions experiencing greater environmental fluctuations.

Oliveira emphasized that this strategy is particularly advantageous in areas that do not share the climatic stability found in Brazil's central west. Inpasa's operations in Paraguay have already demonstrated impressive results, achieving a 92% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from corn ethanol production. This positions the company favorably in the eyes of environmentally conscious buyers eager for greener fuel options.

Looking ahead, Inpasa envisions a robust export market for Brazilian ethanol, encompassing both corn and sugarcane varieties. With increasing global interest in sustainable fuels, South American ethanol is poised to gain traction in international markets, reflecting a broader trend toward eco-friendly energy solutions.
