IOCL Starts Soil Testing for Chandigarh Biogas Project
Indian Oil Corporation Limited has begun soil testing for a biogas plant with a projected capacity of 230 tons per day. This initiative aligns with the company's goal to enhance waste processing and reduce emissions in Chandigarh.

IOCL is conducting soil testing at the Dadumajra dumpsite for a compressed biogas (CBG) plant, targeting a capacity of 230 tons per day, with plans to expand to 250 tons per day as requested by the Municipal Corporation (MC). The project is estimated to exceed Rs 100 crore, with IOCL financing it and recovering costs through CBG sales.
The MC has allocated 10 acres of land, reserving an additional 5 acres for future needs. The plant will also process 30 tons of cow dung daily, and the MC will manage the collection and transport of waste to the facility. This project, established under a design-build-finance-operate model, aims to improve waste management in Chandigarh, which produces approximately 200 tons of wet waste daily.
