Iran Prepares Power Grid for Summer with Focus on Renewable Energy and Consumption Management
Iran's power grid is set for summer peak demand, with an emphasis on managing consumption and expanding renewable energy capacity. The government aims to reduce peak load demand by 5% and increase renewable energy contributions significantly by 2027.

Iran's Power Generation and Distribution Company (TAVANIR) has confirmed the power grid's readiness for the summer peak, implementing a demand reduction program targeting a 5% decrease. The capacity of renewable energy sources has quadrupled, with plans to add 15,000 megawatts to the grid by 2027 through a $300 million investment from the National Development Fund.
Consumption management initiatives include the installation of 9 million smart meters and prioritizing supply to industrial and agricultural sectors. Legal measures are being taken against unauthorized electricity use, with a target to eliminate 1,800 megawatts of illegal consumption. The government's push for electrification of transportation and renewable energy is critical for sustainable development, reflecting a shift from fossil fuel dependency.
