Ireland Joins BIOMAPE EU Biomethane Project with Seven Other Countries
Ireland has joined the BIOMAPE project, a European initiative aimed at advancing biomethane deployment across member states, which is supported by the European Commission. Launched at a workshop in Dublin, the project addresses various challenges in biomethane development and seeks to align with climate targets and energy security. Key discussions focused on strategies for the long-term viability of biomethane plants, market transparency, and regulatory improvements.

Ireland is selected to participate in the BIOMAPE project, aimed at enhancing biomethane deployment across EU member states. Supported by the European Commission, the initiative addresses technical, regulatory, market, and social challenges in biomethane development.
The project was launched at a workshop in Dublin, hosted by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and Eversheds Sutherland, bringing together stakeholders to discuss market and policy developments. Key themes included the need for long-term viability strategies for biomethane plants, improved market transparency, and streamlined regulations.
The project aims to align with climate targets and energy security, with partners including ISINNOVA, the European Biogas Association, and Renewable Gas Forum Ireland. Ireland's national biomethane strategy supports this pivotal phase for biomethane development.
