Jashore Waste Plant Mismanagement Raises Public Health Concerns
The Jashore waste processing plant, initially built for Tk26 crore, is now largely non-functional, posing serious health risks. Improper waste handling, especially mixing hazardous medical waste with regular garbage, raises alarms over disease transmission in the surrounding community.

The Jashore waste processing facility, spanning 14 acres, was intended to produce organic fertilizer, biogas, and electricity but is now underperforming. Public health experts have flagged the mixing of hazardous medical waste with household garbage, significantly heightening the risk of infections.
Residents report persistent foul odors and health issues, particularly respiratory problems and skin diseases among vulnerable populations. Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr. Masud Rana highlighted the potential for increased health complications during the upcoming monsoon.
Local authorities attribute the crisis to mismanagement by the lessee company, which has not met lease conditions. The municipality is engaged in corrective actions and has indicated an intention to install new machinery.
