Kiambu County's Piglet Program Transforms Youth into Entrepreneurs
The Kiambu County Government's piglet distribution program has empowered local youth, turning them into professional pig farmers. Initiated by Governor Kimani Wamatangi, the program has positively impacted young people, including Peter Gitau and Joseph Kaniaru, who have transitioned from idleness to sustainable livelihoods.
With the support of starter feed and training, participants have expanded their pig farming operations, leading to economic upliftment and community development. The initiative has resulted in increased local economic activity, with feed sales rising and demand for veterinary services growing.
The program aims to engage youth, encouraging cooperative marketing and future ventures in pig breeding and biogas production. Governor Wamatangi anticipates that successful groups could own up to 100 pigs in months, generating significant profits and fostering grassroots transformation in Kiambu County.
