Kreios Space Secures NATO Funding to Develop Electric Propulsion for Satellite Launches
Kreios Space has received €8 million from NATO's Innovation Fund to enhance satellite launches with electric propulsion. The funding supports European defense initiatives and boosts the company's total investment to over €10 million since its inception.

Kreios Space, founded in 2021, is developing satellite launch capabilities using an electric propulsion system known as ABEP, which operates by converting atmospheric air into plasma. The company secured €8 million in September 2025, marking NATO's inaugural investment in Spain through its Innovation Fund, designed to bolster European defense.
This recent funding follows a previous investment of €2.3 million in 2024, bringing total financing to over €10 million. Kreios plans to test its technology in space, which could enhance Earth observation and critical communication. However, competition from established players like SpaceX presents potential challenges.
