Lallemand Biofuels Targets Growth in Brazil's Ethanol Biotechnology Sector
Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits is investing significantly in Brazil, aiming to double its market share in ethanol biotechnology. The company is focusing on enhancing production efficiency and is poised for growth driven by the 'Fuel of the Future' program, which will increase ethanol blending in gasoline from 22% to 35%.

Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits (LBDS) plans to double its market share in Brazil's ethanol biotechnology sector. The company has invested around US$ 100 million over the past 15 years in genetic engineering and biotechnological solutions, enhancing ethanol productivity by up to 6%.
Key markets include Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Goiás, which house major corn ethanol refineries. The 'Fuel of the Future' initiative aims to increase ethanol in gasoline to 35%. With 21 new biorefineries authorized in various states, the sector is expected to grow.
Anticipated production for corn ethanol in 2024/25 is 7.8 billion liters, a 25% increase, while sugarcane ethanol may decline by nearly 5%. LBDS emphasizes the potential for additional production through its catalysts and is advancing research in second-generation ethanol, targeting 12 billion liters by 2030. This growth reflects the increasing demand for sustainable fuel solutions in Brazil.
