Lambra Kangri Village in Punjab Uses Biogas for Cooking for 10 Years
In Lambra Kangri, Punjab, 44 families have utilized biogas from cattle dung instead of LPG for the past decade. A community biogas plant, initiated in 2016 by the Lambra Kangri Multipurpose Cooperative Society, processes 2,500 kg of dung daily, supplying methane gas to homes.
Monthly biogas costs range from Rs 200 to Rs 300 compared to Rs 700 for LPG. The initiative, inspired by a South Korea study, involved collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University and received a government grant to establish the biogas facility. The system features a metering process for gas usage, and the leftover slurry is sold as biofertiliser, enhancing sanitation and generating income.
