Lithgow City Council and LGI Limited Launch Landfill Gas Project to Reduce Emissions
BIOFUELSNATURAL GAS
Lithgow City Council, in partnership with LGI Limited, has reduced CO2e emissions by 7,491 tonnes and captured more than 789,000 m3 of biogas within two months through the Lithgow Landfill Gas Project. This initiative will generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) revenue for the council and local ratepayers.
LGI is responsible for recovering biogas and reducing methane emissions at the Lithgow Solid Waste Facility via an enclosed flaring unit. The completed first phase included installing a flaring unit and drilling 30 gas wells. LGI's work with various New South Wales councils has collectively reduced emissions by over 2.1 million tonnes since 2013.
