Local Officials Visit Danish Biogas Plant Amid Concerns Over Hautrage Project
Local officials and citizens visited a biogas plant in Denmark as part of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' (CIP) proposed project in Hautrage. The visit aimed to understand the plant's operations amid an ongoing public inquiry.
Participants noted significant differences between Tønder and Hautrage, including governance structures and population density. In Tønder, the mayor has unilateral authority over plant approvals, unlike in Hautrage, where multiple levels of government are involved.
Concerns were raised about odors and waste management, as participants reported unpleasant smells during the visit attributed to insufficient sealing and open doors. François Roosens, a local councilor, stated that while the concept of gas production seemed appealing, proximity to residences poses major issues.
The visit confirmed existing fears among local residents, who continue to oppose the project. CIP plans to hold informational sessions for residents in Hautrage.
