Lufthansa Group Expands Climate Protection Initiatives
Lufthansa Group launches enhanced climate projects portfolio, emphasizing direct air carbon capture technologies and increased passenger contributions. The move aims to bolster sustainable aviation efforts and align with climate goals.

Lufthansa Group has unveiled an expanded portfolio of climate protection initiatives, including a focus on direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS) technologies. Passengers can contribute to CO2 savings through 14 climate projects implemented in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, and other nations.
Last year, contributions from travelers amounted to over 710,000 metric tonnes of CO2, a 20% increase from the previous year. The portfolio now features a doubled number of projects aimed at permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere, comprising 20% of total initiatives.
The two main categories include avoidance projects that prevent emissions and removal projects that actively sequester CO2. The integration of emerging technologies like DACCS highlights a long-term strategy for carbon management.
