Maharashtra Commission Closes Tata Power Solar Petition, Leaves Legal Options Open
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has withdrawn its petition regarding curtailment claims for its 120 MW Akkalkot Solar project, leading the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to officially close the case. The withdrawal allows TPREL to pursue future legal avenues if necessary.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has closed the petition from Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) concerning its 120 MW Akkalkot Solar project, following TPREL's withdrawal request. Initially filed in July 2025, the petition involved claims of improper curtailment by the Maharashtra State Load Despatch Centre and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd, with TPREL seeking compensation of ₹4.45 crore for alleged financial losses.
MSETCL defended its actions on the grounds of grid security. After TPREL's January 2026 withdrawal request and subsequent confirmation during a February 2026 e-hearing, MERC issued its final order on April 2, 2026, allowing the withdrawal 'without prejudice,' enabling TPREL to consider future legal actions if deemed necessary. This outcome reflects ongoing tensions in the renewable energy sector regarding curtailment practices.
