Manatee County to Launch Waste to Worth Project for Renewable Natural Gas Production
Manatee County, Florida, is set to launch the Waste to Worth project, which will convert landfill waste into renewable natural gas by processing methane currently flared from the landfill. The initiative aims to generate annual revenues of $850,000 to $1.7 million for the utility department and will include the construction of a facility to purify methane for pipeline use, with completion expected by July 2027.

Manatee County, Florida, is advancing the Waste to Worth project to convert landfill waste into renewable natural gas. The project aims to utilize methane generated from the landfill, with current operations flaring 75% of the methane while 25% powers a biosolids dryer.
The initiative is expected to generate annual revenues between $850,000 and $1.7 million for the utility department. A facility will be constructed to process and purify the methane for pipeline quality, allowing it to be used as a natural gas resource for heating and appliances. Construction is set to begin in six months, with project completion anticipated by July 2027.
