Maradu Municipal Chairperson Prioritizes Waste Management Solutions and Sanitation Projects

BIOFUELS

Maradu municipal chairperson Ajitha Nandakumar identified waste management as her top priority, highlighting challenges in managing solid waste in the municipality. With over 50,000 residents, Maradu lacks adequate space for waste management facilities.

Two potential solutions are being considered: utilizing the Brahmapuram solid waste management plant or managing waste on a promised 50-cent plot. Nandakumar emphasized the need for public cooperation in waste management at the source through biogas plants and compost bins.

Additionally, the municipality is addressing the rising street dog population by exploring options for setting up ABC centres for sterilization. Plans include implementing the first 'Take a Break' project to establish three public toilets and reclassifying industrial areas for residential use. Nandakumar will share the chairperson role with Suneela Sibi for a term of two and a half years each.
