On December 20, 2025, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE toured six youth-led climate action projects in Freetown, supported by the Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund. Highlights included a solar-powered shade cover at Kroo Town Road Market by Sierra Ecoshade, and a mangrove restoration site in Mafemgbeya-Cockle Bay with 15,000 seedlings by Nature for Mangroves.
The Mayor also inspected an irrigation system and a retrofitting project for electric tricycles at Sierra Electric Technology. At Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a biodigester system by Greentech Bioenergy converts waste into cooking gas.
The tour concluded at the Low-Cost Market in Kissy, where Girls in Renewable Energy installed solar lighting. The fund has supported 27 youth groups in Freetown with grants totaling approximately $130,000 over the past two years.
