MCWD Reduces Diesel Usage, No Immediate Rate Hike After April Adjustment
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is reducing diesel dependency in key wells while maintaining water rates post-April 1 adjustment. This strategic shift aims to manage rising operational costs without imposing additional charges on consumers.

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has implemented measures to cut diesel consumption in its operations while confirming no new rate hikes following a 10 percent increase effective April 1, 2026. General Manager DX Lapid stated that MCWD is currently managing operational costs without passing them on to consumers, despite rising fuel prices impacting daily operations.
The utility has connected two wells to the main power grid, reducing diesel usage significantly, with only one remaining on a generator. Additionally, tighter spending controls have been enacted across travel and vehicle use. The previous rate adjustment is aimed at funding system upgrades and enhancing service reliability.
