Meru Sewerage Project to Enhance Sanitation for 193,000 Residents
The Meru Sewerage Project aims to upgrade sanitation infrastructure for 193,000 residents, incorporating a new wastewater treatment facility. This initiative addresses urgent public health needs and supports the rapid urban growth of Meru town.

The Meru Sewerage Project will expand sanitation services to approximately 193,000 residents by replacing outdated sewer infrastructure. Key features include over 50 kilometers of new trunk sewer lines and a modern wastewater treatment plant in Rwanyange, with a capacity of 11,800 cubic meters per day.
The project, managed by Tana Water Works Development Agency, aims to ease pressure on the existing system and improve environmental management. Completion of the project will lead to the decommissioning of the Gakoromone Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has surpassed its design lifespan. Successful execution is critical, as it will enhance hygiene standards and reduce health risks in rapidly expanding urban areas like Meru.
