Metsä Group's demonstration plant for lignin products began operations in Äänekoski, Finland, with a capacity of two tons per day. The plant utilizes lignin from the bioproduct mill and was built in collaboration with ANDRITZ and Dow.

The initiative aims to explore lignin's potential beyond bioenergy, including applications in concrete and gypsum production. The partners previously worked together on the LigniOx EU project to validate lignin as a fossil-based chemical replacement. The demo plant will help determine the market viability of the new lignin products and support future commercial production.
