MHP to Launch Insect Meal Production Trial in Ukraine by Q1 2026 Amid Poultry Industry Challenges
Ukraine's MHP plans to begin trial production of insect meal by Q1 2026 to address protein shortages and declining fishmeal availability for animal feed, as announced by Serhiy Melnychuk at a recent conference. The poultry processor has faced a 7% drop in production in H1 2025 and is also dealing with operational challenges due to frequent blackouts. To counter these issues, MHP is investing in renewable energy sources to ensure operational continuity.

Ukraine's MHP, a leading poultry processor and exporter, plans to start trial production of insect meal in Q1 2026, targeting insect-based alternative protein amid global protein shortages. This initiative was announced by Serhiy Melnychuk during the VI International Conference on Soil Fertility Restoration.
MHP's move comes in response to declining fish catches impacting fishmeal availability for animal feed. In H1 2025, MHP's poultry production fell by 7% to 341,940 tonnes, with a 14% drop in Q2 compared to the prior year.
The Ukrainian poultry sector is also facing operational difficulties due to frequent blackouts lasting 8-12 hours, affecting farm operations. MHP has invested in renewable energy sources like biogas, solar, and cogeneration to mitigate these power supply risks and ensure continuity in operations.
