MOL Partners for Japan's First Ship-to-Ship Methanol Bunkering in Yokohama
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) partnered with four entities to complete Japan's first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering at Yokohama. The operation involved transferring methanol from Kokuka Sangyo's Eika Maru to MOL's Kohzan Maru VII using biomethanol produced at MGC's Niigata Plant. This project is part of Japan's efforts to promote methanol as a clean marine fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has completed Japan's first ship-to-ship (STS) methanol bunkering operation at anchorage in Yokohama, partnering with the City of Yokohama, Kokuka Sangyo, Idemitsu Kosan, and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company.
The Eika Maru transferred biomethanol to MOL's dual-fuel vessel, Kohzan Maru VII. The operation used domestically produced biomethanol from MGC's Niigata Plant, supporting future vessel operations. This milestone aligns with Japan's strategy to utilize methanol as a clean marine fuel to reduce GHG emissions. The project aims to expand methanol bunkering throughout Japan, leveraging insights from this operation.
