Navi Mumbai to Launch Rs 2,100 Cr Waste-to-Energy Project at Turbhe Landfill

Navi Mumbai is developing a waste-to-energy facility at the Turbhe landfill with an estimated investment of Rs 2,100 crore, part of efforts to enhance solid waste management and sustainable power generation. The project, initiated by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) under the Solid Waste Management Act, 2016, will be executed through a public-private partnership.

The first phase will invest Rs 910 crore to establish a biogas plant and waste-to-electricity unit, with NMMC contributing Rs 181 crore and R & B Greentech LLP investing Rs 729 crore. The facility will process 850 tonnes of waste daily initially, increasing to 1,500 tonnes by 2038, generating 27 MW of electricity and bio-CNG. Completion is expected within 36 months.
