Netherlands Allocates €33.6 Million for Alternative Marine Fuels in Second Maritime Masterplan Funding Round
The Netherlands will launch its second €33.6 million funding round under the €210 million Maritime Masterplan on May 19, 2026. This round supports projects utilizing alternative marine fuels on new or retrofitted vessels, expanding eligibility to ammonia and bioethanol following industry feedback. Applications are open until November 3, 2026, with up to €8 million available per project. This initiative aims to demonstrate 30 climate neutral vessels as part of the zero emission shipping strategy.

Applications are accepted until November 3, 2026, with up to €8 million available per project. The total budget allocates €21.6 million for projects over €4 million and €12 million for those below. The funding supports the government's goal of demonstrating around 30 climate neutral vessels in the coming years as part of a zero emission shipping strategy.
The first funding round awarded €85 million in 2024 for hydrogen, methanol, and carbon capture technologies. A final call is planned for 2029.
