Niedersachsen Focuses on Grid and Storage to Achieve Climate Goals
WIND ENERGYBIOFUELSHYDROGEN
The energy transition in Germany is entering a new phase with an emphasis on storage, pipelines, and power grids alongside renewable sources. Bärbel Heidebroek highlighted that the focus should be on infrastructure expansion, not slowing renewable energy growth.
The average approval time for onshore wind projects has decreased to under a year. The integration of systems is crucial, and flexibility through storage, biogas, hydrogen, and smart meters is essential.
Local benefits from the transition are emphasized. Niedersachsen's growth in wind energy has seen a doubling of approved capacity in one year, with 209 new wind turbines installed, totaling 1156 MW.
